Delegate Orientation Course

Highlights

  • Story-based learning

    • Learners experience a scripted but realistic series of interactions between a veteran delegate, Simone, and a new delegate, Logan over 6 lessons.

      • She guides him through everything he needs to know to be successful at his first upcoming Delegate Assembly, a critical, annual organizational meeting.

  • Podcast-style audio experience

    • Voice actors deliver realistic conversations in brief (two minutes max.) podcast-like audio bits that also deliver key information.

  • Microlearnings give learners control

    • Content is strategically segmented across six lessons that are further segmented as one sub-topic per page to keep learners focused.

    • Learners are encouraged to navigate only to relevant lessons and subtopics depending on their own experience, putting them in the driver seat.

Features

  • Motion graphic videos guide learners through the course and explain more complex sub-topics.

  • A pre- and posttest allow learners to select only the relevant content and helps them engage in that material with more purpose.

  • Key takeaways, resources, and a glossary enhance understanding for every lesson.

  • Each lesson is framed by a LEARN-PRACTICE-APPLY approach to reinforce retention.

  • Infographics, characters, and overall visual design are modern and cohesive.

  • Full transcripts accompany each audio conversation for accessibility.

Audience

Nationwide members of state regulatory bodies who are attending a yearly voting session.

Problem

The Executive Office desired a more engaging, confidence-boosting training for voting members at their yearly regulatory meeting. The training needed to be interactive, take less than two hours to complete, and deliver important information on meeting processes and procedures.

My Responsibilities

Here’s what I did to create a story-based, highly successful course:

  • Workshop facilitation

    • Understanding goals, scope, timeline

    • Determining and defining audiences

    • Helping Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) re-envision possibilities for the course based on their own feedback

  • Course map, style guide, and storyboard creation

  • Developing realistic, conversational scripts that deliver key information without boring the audience

  • Character construction in Adobe Illustrator with various poses and expressions

  • Collecting stakeholder feedback throughout the design cycle

    • I worked closely with three SMEs and we developed a shared sense of trust and mutual responsibility to deliver a high quality course.

  • Content revisions before final release across the membership

[ID Influence] Merrill’s 1st Principles of Instruction

Showing learners what to do at the annual voting meeting through the audio and video segments.

*

Application (PRACTICE)

Learners practice using new information with formative assessments and immediate feedback.

*

Task-centered instruction (APPLY)

Providing relevant & realistic scenarios for learners to work through within each lesson.
